Abstract

Discussable issues lurk amidst the sprawling variety of "heaven" conceptions in different traditions. To advance reflection on heaven thinking, this paper concentrates on the question of what makes for a best world and orders possible heavens according to alternative resolutions of space, time and causality. Some apparent strengths and weaknesses of each type are examined. It is suggested that the proposed heavens of most durable interest will be those representing the most amazing combinations of possibilities, while the most productive discussions of heaven-related issues will be those best able to refer to conditions of goodness in the actual world.
