European Identity in the Process of European Integration

Abstract

European identity and European nations in peace, equality and mutual respect on the basis of national identity than the existing, mainly related to European cultural identity, EU citizenship and EU foreign and defense identity, and others. The formation of European identity is an important component of European integration is a powerful tool to promote the integrated development, which will help to resolve the legality of the development of European integration, integration of functionalism to make up for the lack of roads, developing public ownership of the EU sense of ethnic conflicts in Europe to ease and improve the EU's position in international affairs and influence, provide the basis for the EU's eastward expansion and power. European identity and development should focus on the future and the common interests of all ethnic groups to break the deadlock in the integrated development, to achieve good governance in Europe as a whole. European identity is a product of various Europe nations transcending their national identities on the basis of peace, quality and mutual respect, and it involves some dimensions such as European cultural identity, citizenship of European Union and identity on the European Union's foreign and defense affairs. The formation of European identity is one of the major components of European integration, as well as a powerful force in promoting the development of European integration. It is playing a very important role in solving the legitimacy problem in the integration process, supplementing the deficiency of a functionalist integration model, cultivating people's loyalty toward European Union, relieving the contradictions among European nations, enhancing EU's position and influence in international affairs, and also providing basis and dynamics for the eastward enlargement of the European Union. The development of European identity should be look forward to the future of Europe and common interests of different European nations, breaking the deadlock in the development of European integration, and also achieving the goal of good governance in Europe on the whole
