Abstract

Status of women from ancient period to the early part of the twentieth century, the factors responsible for the awakening of women, their role in the freedom movement, the establishment of Women's India Association, the first all India women's organisation in Madras in 1917 and its works in connection with amelioratin the conditions of women are some of the important features covered in this book. This work provides a comprehensive picture regarding the status of women and women's movement in the soutern part of our country till India attained its Independence.
