Abstract

First published in 1937 as the fourth edition of a 1915 original, this book provides a readable account of the earth's surface and the changes that take place upon it, and shows how human activities are influenced by physical and climactic factors. Pickles generally manages to transcend the colonial ideals of his time, illustrating the text with many pertinent diagrams and photographs of natural and man-made geographical points of interest. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in geography or the history of education.
