Abstract

If « baroque »'s category was used by literature's history, in order to account for the Essays, philosophy never made use of it. However, it is possible to consider Montaigne's thought process, which is ruled by the notions of imagination and possibility, as a baroque's manner to philosophize. It also allows to prevent the exclusion, out of the philosophical range, of those thought process, embarrassing if they are only read according to the light of reason, and even to envisage better some aspects of « classicism »
