The Humanistic Spirit of Virtue Ethics-On the Appropriate Translation of the Term "Virtue Ethics"

Abstract

First, the paper points out that all the people on the whole concept should be carried out by a humanist is concerned for the supernatural or transcendent, therefore, proposed that Maritain's "holistic humanism" or Li Zhen's "universal humanism" as a We adopted a new humanism. Second, by Virtue and Virtue Ethics of the appropriate translation of the study, confirm the "virtue" is "a make it easier to do good habits," pointing to "excellent human nature" and "there are people and all the appropriate relationship between the implementation or full of all ", then certainly in the inherent virtue ethics or the integrity of the spirit of universal humanism. First, this article points out that humanism, formed by the integral ideas about human beings, is concerned with the supernatural and the super-nature aspects. Therefore, we take Jacques Maritain's integral humanism or Gabriel Chen Ly's universal humanism as our new humanism. Second , through the discussion of the appropriate translation of "virtue" and "virtue ethics", we confirm that "virtue" is a habit that "inclines people to the good," "points to the transcendence of human nature" and the "fulfillment and satisfaction of the appropriate relationship between human and other beings, "and then consequently approves the spirit of universal or integral humanism as part of virtue ethics
