Abstract

Post-modern SymptomsPostmodernism is not an ideology; it is born rather as an enantiodromic movement seeking to annul all of that which has been worshipped in Modernity. Unity, homogeneity and singularity, values of Modernity, have been reactively replaced, by postmodernism, by fragmentation, heterogeneity and multiplicity. Lacking any grounding ideology, postmodernism is precariously capable only of providing man escape routes to act out his evasion in the face of the horror vacui. This paper seeks to cast light on the present “Civilization and its Discontents”. Keywords: Postmodernism; Modernity; Ideology; Civilization; Discontent
