Abstract

This article wonders about the way Derrida addresses the issue of animal. It particularly follows Derrida seeking for the ‘animal’, first avoiding the question of language and of logos – attributes refused to animals by some philosophical tradition. On the contrary, it focuses on a question appearing to be essential : can animal suffer ? But which animal ? Secondly, the article follows Derrida in his « passion » for animals, suggesting that there might be as a – christic, messianic, cathartic, parodic ? – substitution of the latters by the former, which appears with the surprising phrase « ecce animot »
