Abstract

This volume is the sixth in the monumental series, Der Platonismus in der Antike, a thematic and systematic collection of ancient writings grouped under the aegis of Platonism. The ambitious goal of this project is to create a compendium of Platonist writing across the broad scope of their philosophical interests as well as to describe the historical and intellectual framework in which they wrote. The present volume contains Platonist writings on the soul: its definition, its nature and substance, its component parts and their arrangement, its relationship to the body, and arguments to establish its immortality, inter alia. As the teaching concerning the soul stands at the intersection of the various strands of Platonist thought, this volume is an essential component in the overall project.
