Frankness: On the "Zhi" in the Analects of Confucius

Abstract

Modern "theory" translation of the "direct" translation is not consistent with Qian, Yang Bojun, hou translation, for example, generally hangs in the "straightforward" and "integrity" between. According to "Dictionary", "straight" meaning nothing to hide, you can determine the "straight" the basic meaning is straightforward. Proceeding from this, "The Analects" of all the chapters in the "straight" in Reorganizing found that "straightforward" justice can be integrated coherent whole, "The Analects of Confucius", no need to introduce social justice with a strong modern style of "integrity" meaning. Especially in light of straightforward meaning of the "hidden kiss each other," chapter in the "straight" to explain, for Confucian ethics and the tensions between social justice will show another picture. In modern versions of the Analects of Confucius, there are different interpretion to the "Zhi" . Whereas, according to the Origin of Chinese Characters, its original meaning is unconcealment, ie frankness. Based on it, this paper makes a full discussion of "Zhi" in the Analect of Confucius, especially in the chapter about "the concealment of father and son ", and puts forward that frankness is an appropriate translation to" Zhi ". If so, the relation between Confucian Ethics and Social Justice will have another vision
