On The Intellectuals' Title of "Banished Immortal" in Tang Dynasty
Abstract
"Immortal" was originally a Taoist immortal earth disgrace for being the title, but the title in the Tang Dynasty, Taoism has also been widely borrowed Shihlin. This phenomenon appears to be a reflection of the Tang Dynasty scholar Taoist beliefs, but in reality due to the Tang Dynasty scholar for the "Immortal" edge of the character of the resonance, making the mainstream and community centers in addition to most of the scholar who, when frustrated in the gaffe, can also be psychological comfort. The title "Banished immortal" refers to the Taoist immortal who is exiled from the Taoist Heaven to the human world due to some perceived defect. This Taoist title is also borrowed generally by the intellectuals in the Tang Dynasty. The adopted use of the term not only reflects the Taoist belief of the intellectuals in the Tang Dynasty, but also results from their sympathizing with the banished immortal 'fringe character. It also indicates the secularization of Taoist immortal concept in Tang Dynasty
