Abstract

In this paper I intend to provide an account of Collingwood's ontological argument. My underlying con-cern is that readers who might otherwise be sympathetic to the arguments of Collingwood's Essay on Philosophical Method and An Essay on Metaphysics may believe that the arguments of these works are invalidated by Collingwood's commitment to the ontological `proof'. This may indeed have been Gilbert Ryle's attitude to An Essay on Philosophical Method: Ryle discusses the ontological argument but no other aspect of this work.
