Le sens du préfixe méta- dans l'Etoile de la rédemption

La critique du Tout est l'axe recteur de tout ce qu'écrit Rosenzweig, au début de L'Étoile, en introduisant la notion de méta-: « Le Tout ne peut plus prétendre être tout: il a perdu son caractère unique. » Ainsi la notion de « méta- » a-t-elle pour fonction de préserver l'irréductible position ontologique de chacune des trois sphères et leur unicité. Or l'identité de la pensée et de l'être « présuppose une non-identité interne » qui permet précisément à la pensée de s'identifier à l'être. Et Rosenzweig entend dénoncer comme un deus ex machina toute synthèse qui s'imposerait alors, tandis que le préfixe « méta- » est destiné à souligner l'impossibilité d'une inclusion, la non-identitification de ce qui doit être considéré comme irréductible (Dieu, monde, homme). And Rosenzweig intends to denounce as an deux ex machina every synthesis wich then would be imperative, whereas the « meta- » prefix is to emphasize the impossibility of inclusion, the non-identificable of what has to be considered as irreductible (God, World, Man)
