British scholars of hospitality and tourism, in fields such as philosophy, sociology, and anthropology, describe the social relationships that are fundamental to successful hospitality management. Essays explore the social history of hospitality, gender issues, humor in commercial hospitality settings, the philosophy of the good host, and a post-modern perspective on the topic.
