Abstract

In the history of Ukrainian sociology of religion, the figure is V.Lipinsky. In this area, his attention was focused on comprehension of the significance of religion in the history of Ukrainian society, the role of various Christian denominations in the development of our culture, in the state and nation-building processes. In this article an attempt is made to investigate the understanding of the essence of religion as such by the Ukrainian thinker. It is known that religious and religious ideas of a sociologist and historian are set out in his book "Religion and Church in the History of Ukraine", based on the analysis of which the conclusions contained in the article are made.
