Abstract

This dissertation seeks to place the figure of Zarathustra at the center of an analysis of Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra. It addresses the text as not only a work of philosophy but as a work of fiction. It argues that the concepts advanced in the text need to be seen as not as abstracted concepts in a traditional philosophic argument but as always grounded in the concrete visceral voice of Zarathustra. The dissertation employs the though of M. M. Bakhtin to consider Zarathustra as divided into types. The dissertation seeks to separate and consider the differing ideational voices and positions that articulations that belong to the voices that articulate overman and eternal return
