Abstract

Drawing on data obtained by pediatricians, general physicians, ethnologists, sociologists and historians, the present day infant mortality rate in Third World countries is compared with changes in infant mortality that have occurred throughout European history. The comparison between the historian and the pediatrician, on one hand makes for a better evaluation of the historical data, and, on the other provides the pediatrician with notions from history that can contribute to decreasing infant mortality
