Abstract

This paper examines rebirth through water in Coleridge's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and Barnes' A History of the World in 10½ Chapters. It attempts to illuminate the reasons for the differences in the treatment of the archetype between the two texts, mainly pertaining to the changing perspective on female fertility
