Abstract

The purpose of this project was to examine the extent of the relevance of literature concerning Appalachian culture and literature concerning postmodernism to ministry in Appalachia. The project includes a literature review, descriptors of the Appalachian and postmodern mindsets, arising from that review, a survey based on those descriptors, survey results and conclusions. The survey was distributed in a two-church United Methodist Charge in Central Pennsylvania. The survey results and literature seemed to indicate a trend toward agreement with postmodern views and away from Appalachian views as one views the respondents in age groups from older to younger
