Decoherence, the measurement problem, and interpretations of quantum mechanics

Abstract

It is the purpose of this essay to review the theory of environment-induced decoherence, and its implications for the traditional problem of quantum measurement, intimately related to the emergence of the classical world from a quantum reality. Additionally we discuss how decoherence fits in with a number of traditional and more recent interpretations of quantum theory.
