Abstract
In the background of this paper lies the idea that the developmental thinking characteristic of psychoanalysis and, more broadly, psychodynamic psychotherapy is all of a piece with a philosophical tradition going back to Plato and Aristotle, which focuses on the connections between human nature, human excellence and the good life for human beings.
