Abstract

Aan de hand van twee grote filosofen, Plato en Rousseau geeft Claude Habib een overzicht van het denken over de liefde. Plato ziet de liefde als een streven naar verloren eenheid. De liefde leidt volgens hem tot een filosofisch leven; Rousseau beschouwt de liefde als het onmisbare, hartstochtelijke fundament van een politiek bestaan gericht op vrijheid. Zowel Plato als Rousseau trekken de vergankelijkheid van liefde in twijfel: voor beiden staat liefde bol van toekomst.
