Abstract

In the "cultural globalization" and "post-modern" discourse of the times today, to re-examine the relationship between Confucianism and modern, is an old tune but should be repetitive of the theoretical and practical issues. Based on the "cultural globalization" and the modernization theory, especially the process of social modernization of Confucianism in East Asia in the different roles played by the order, determination and analysis, that social development and cultural continuity of the historical inheritance of Confucianism and modernization of the decision between both the opposing side, more interlinked side. Confucianism in East Asia's role in the modernization process is not consistent, but at different times and in different stages, different countries have different performance, in general, with the start of modern East Asia, hindered the development of a modern power by actively promoting the development into power. Even the beginning of modernization in East Asia, Confucian tradition has not completely fade into history, Confucianism in East Asian countries to achieve the transition from the traditional to the modern role in the process is undeniable. With the development of society, the world's cultural exchanges between the range of interaction, communication, dialogue, Confucianism will face more challenges, welcome more development opportunities. Thus, the further modernization of Confucianism in East Asia, the development process will play a bigger role, and social transformation in East Asia, and cultural transformation in the modern active and innovative in the world. Today we are stepping into culture-globalization times and in post-modem. So it will become an old problem but a very important one, whether in theory or in true-life, to ponder the relation of Confucianism and modernization over again. I think that there are great differences as well as many similarities between Confucianism and modernization, by studying the differences effects of culture-globalization, the theory of modernization and especially Confucianism in the modernization course of East Asia. Of course, we can find that in the modernization course of East Asia Confucianism plays different roles in different times, which is growing into a positive-impetus form a negative-impetus. We're able to see that even in the beginning of this course the tradition of Confucianism hadn't been dropped out the stage of history. What's more, we can't deny the effects of Confucianism in this course, too. I believe that Confucianism will win more accidents than challenge because of many kinds of cultures' intercourse and dialogue. Hence, Confucianism will be better and better in the modernization course of East Asia, and will actively innovate and receive the challenges of the world in the future
