Abstract

The impasse of democracy, in Italy and elsewhere, can be described as a crisis of political representation or as a drift towards populism and plebiscite democracy. The eleven theories of the paper try to focus on this crisis, considering it as an old problem of deformation affecting democracy from the beginning. Against this deformation, you can see democracy in a more dynamic way, as the basis for citizenship and political participation, continually growing in size and complexity. In order to do that, it would be important to look for a model of democracy not only based on practical know-how, but also theoretically consistent
