Abstract

Stirred by their passion for a cause, twenty-two Australian women reveal new ways of doing leadership. Their diverse backgrounds and behind-the-scenes stories show the dramas and frustrations which color women's experience in the public eye. In politics and business, government and sport, science and songwriting, they also lead the way in campaigns for health, education, child care, law reform, sexual preference, Aboriginal rights, cultural diversity, land care, peace and freedom. Carrying the Banner brims over with vivid memories and humble reflections, tales of courage and of political machinations, and strategies for leadership for new generations of women. Rather than portraying the woman leader as an isolated exception the contributors show that every woman can take the path to inspiring leadership.
