Abstract

This volume is designed as an anthology of shorter texts centered around some of the standard problems in natural theology. The first section contains readings pertaining to the theistic proofs; the section on the Ontological argument is particularly well-organized here. The inclusion of Braithwaite's paper, "Religious Statements as Ethically but not Factually Significant" and Hick's own paper on "Eschatological Verification" makes these papers available in an inexpensive form for the first time. Hick's own conviction that religion can at best assume an attitude of indifference or armed neutrality towards philosophy is reflected in his introduction.—E. A. R.
