Abstract

This study of Nietzsche's ideas interweaves the relevant actions in his life to present a philosophical biography. The major premise of the work is that only such an historical presentation can lead to an understanding of the person Nietzsche who was a philosopher. Nietzsche's published works are analyzed chronologically and his unpublished notes, letters, and secondary materials are used to shed light on his life and works. Nietzsche's philosophic quest is the center of focus. Contents: The Path to Maturity; The Transition; Philosopher in Development; Joy and Love; The Creation of Free Spirit; Explaining His Gospel; The Final Rush; Conclusions; Epilogue; Appendix; Biography; Index.
