General theory on the combination of logics

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present some general questions related to combination of logics 1. Despite the existence of different methods for combining logics, would it be possible to come up with an universal and general approach able to unify the subject? We propose the powerful mechanism problem and argue that a positive answer to this question can also be seen as an initial clue towards a general theory on mechanisms for combining logics.
