Between Optimism And Pessimism. Perspectives On The Universal Definition Of Life
Abstract
Although the definition of life seems to be crucial for philosophy and biology, there is no generally accepted definition of the phenomenon of life. Moreover, there are some serious doubt as to the possibility of an universal definition of life. Some authors claim that due to several fundamental ontological or methodological reasons, a definition of life is not possible at all. The aim of this paper is to discuss and to criticize these sceptical arguments. The author tries also to demonstrate that the arguments are not conclusive, and are methodologically misleading.
