Abstract

The chapter deals with feminism as a theoretical and political movement starting from the mid-twentieth century and its significance for education. The reconstruction of the contemporary history of feminism according to equality feminism, difference feminism and gender feminism draws upon a canonisation that established itself within the feminist historiography of the 1990s and corresponds to the European and Anglo-American context. The second part reconstructs the process of institutionalisation of feminist theories and practices, taking into consideration the historical and social conditions, which shaped the knowledge-historical horizon of both feminism and the gender questions and were subsumed under three conceptions: human rights, post-colonialism and human capital.
