Abstract
This is the ninth published work in "The Arguments of the Philosophers" series. In keeping with the stated purpose of the series, it is critical as well as expository: Barnes has undertaken to present and to assess the "ratiocinations" of Presocratic philosophers. He defends this limited undertaking on the ground that, while much scholarly attention has been paid to philological and historical matters surrounding the teachings of these philosophers, examination of the "rational content" of their teachings has been less thorough.
