Abstract

A true announcement of the law of creation, if a man were found worthy to declare it, would carry art up into the kingdom of nature, and destroy its separate and contrasted existence. The Common Core State Standards for the teaching of literature are now in effect in forty-four states and the District of Columbia. As is the case with previous standards developed at the state level since the 1990s, the Common Core State Standards are framed within a familiar formalist paradigm for literature instruction specifying that high school students will read and study recognized literary works of art, exhibit knowledge of literary history, and demonstrate proficiency using authorized methods for critical..
