Javier Auyero is Assistant Professor of Sociology at the State Univer-sity of New York at Stony Brook. His first book Poor People's Politics (Duke University Press, 2001) won the New England Council for Latin American Studies Best Book Prize and was a C. Wright Mills Award Finalist.
