Abstract

Der Begriff der Schuld lässt sich etwa zum germanischen sculan, also ›sollen‹ zurückverfolgen; diese Bedeutung zeigt eine gewisse Nähe zur zivilrechtlichen Verpflichtung. Dieses ›Sollen‹ weist jedoch den indogermanische Verbalstamm skel auf, was so viel bedeutet wie ›schneiden, schlagen, stechen, abspalten‹. Bezüglich der Schuld im heutigen Verständnis lassen sich hier Parallelen finden zu ›jemanden schneiden‹, weil er eine Tat begangen hat, die ›die Gruppe spaltet‹.
