Una storia della naturalezza. Riflessioni sulla crisi moderna in Karl Löwith e Leo Strauss [A history of naturalness. Some reflections on modern crisis in Karl Löwith and Leo Strauss]
Abstract
The essay discusses the interpretations of ‘history’ and ‘nature’ in Karl Löwith and Leo Strauss, in particular in their correspondence . With the criticism of modernity in the background, the focus is dedicated to their critical interpretations of German historicism between xix and xx century as source of contemporary nihilism. Strauss and Löwith accept the importance of history, but reject the destruction of the idea of nature operated by historicism. Strauss and Löwith interpret differently the idea of nature. In Strauss, ‘nature’ is human nature, conceived as unchangeable order in the history. In Löwith ‘nature’ does’nt have humanistic or normative status: the ‘nature’ is always in the ‘history’
