Abstract objects: Platonism or nominalism?Accept another alternativeI wish to dispense with abstracta in my ontology. But my position is not straightforward nominalism. For instance, properties are real. Properties are modes of concrete objects--i.e., tropes. However, I would endorse the priority of objects in my ontology and not treat them as simply bundles of tropes. Moreover, properties are both dispositional and categorical (so I accept something like C.B. Martin's Limit View of properties). But the reality of properties should not be confused with a commitment to universals or other such abstracta (e.g., propositions, sets, numbers, etc.).
