El artículo examina el consuelo como una cuestión filosófica en cuanto que con-creción de la solicitud, y muestra los recursos que aporta para comprender al ser humano como sujeto sufriente y respondiente. Se analiza el consuelo en cuanto que fenómeno de acceso a otras dimensiones constitutivas del ser humano, como la afec-tividad, la apelación y el cuidado.

One of the key concepts of Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics is the notion of distanciation. In this article we show that Ricoeur introduces this notion as a correction of Heidegger’s focus on being-in and Gadamer’s emphasis on belonging . Ricoeur argues that distanciation does not lead to the uprooting of our belonging to a tradition. Rather, distanciation is an integral part of the dynamics that constitutes tradition. We discuss the different senses in which Ricoeur understands distanciation as a positive and productive (...) aspect of tradition. In particular, we discuss the ontological aspect of distanciation. In his discussion of both the long way of hermeneutics and the creative dimension of distanciation in fiction, Ricoeur argues that it is distanciation that opens up the possibility of understanding our own being-in-the-world. This involvement of distanciation in the disclosure and understanding of being allows us to show that distanciation determines what “kind” of being is understood: what is interpreted in hermeneutics and disclosed in poetics is never being as such, but “being-interpreted” and “being-as,” respectively. This leads us to a description of the difference between Ricoeur’s and Heidegger’s thought concerning the ontological dimension of their hermeneutics. (shrink)

Nous nous référerons dans cet article à la mémoire de l’homme, incarné et historique, déterminé par les médiations spatio-temporelles et exposé aux dilemmes éthiques que doit affronter l’ipséité dans sa capacité d’accueillir l’autre telle que la définit Ricœur. Notre réflexion vise la mémoire inquiétée par des médiations propres à la condition existentielle et corporelle du soi moderne, dans un contexte d’ébullition culturelle et technologique. Un tel contexte a en effet des conséquences qui affectent aussi bien l’identité personnelle et collective, que (...) l’exercice des capacités du soi agissant et souffrant – et tout spécialement celui de sa mémoire. Nous examinerons la dimension tant réceptive que dynamique de la mémoire exposée aux fragilisations qui affectent l’identité narrative humaine, en déterminant ses pouvoirs qui laissent des traces au niveau de la conscience et du corps. Nous terminerons enfin notre réflexion par une analyse des effets volontaires et involontaires qui mettent en question la capacité même de la mémoire, en influant sur l’imagination et sur la réponse éthique du soi. Este artículo se propone examinar el modo en que la fenomenología de la donación puede lograr una vinculación exitosa con la hermenéutica. Siguiendo la indicación dada por el propio Marion, a través de una comparación de su planteo con el de Claude Romano, es posible establecer hasta qué punto la propuesta marioniana es capaz de responder a las exigencias hermenéuticas y fenomenológicas que la articulación demanda.

The varieties of meaning in which we use the terms illness and health requires that we develope a conceptualization allowing us to maintain a unity between the differences. In fact, the experiences of health and illness are complex ones and they need to be understood in their different levels so that the need for help of patients and their desire for health is adequately faced. At its roots, the experience of illness is that of a threat posed to the unreflective (...) credit given to life in good health. This threat has not only a biopsychosocial dimension, but a moral and sybolic one as well, and it is mainly at this level that illness represents a moral challenge. Contemporary culture seems to be at pains in suggesting a shared set of meanings enabling the patient to give an intersubjectively valid sense of illness, since the only kind of answer offered is a technical one. The symbolic dimension of the notions of health and illness call for a deeper cultural enterprise of looking for a credible sense of illness for our times. (shrink)

L’auteur revisite certains textes de Paul Ricœur publiés entre 1960 et 1992, afin d’exposer le rapport de cette philosophie avec la théologie chrétienne. Il interroge le statut de la théologie spéculative, dévolu par cette pensée, qui accorde un certain privilège à la théologie herméneutique et à la théologie politique.

Este trabajo describe el concepto de reflexión en la fenomenología de Edmund Husserl y en la hermenéutica de Paul Ricoeur, especialmente en sus trabajos metodológicos y de fundamentación de sus respectivas filosofías. La atención está puesta principalmente en las semejanzas y diferencias entre ambas nociones de reflexión. Con ello se pretende conducir al lector hacia la pregunta que interroga por el sentido de la actividad reflexiva, entendida como capacidad de descubrir y analizar las propias operaciones subjetivas implicadas en la constitución (...) de la vida y del mundo. Resumen: El siguiente trabajo tiene por objetivo examinar la Nueva fenomenología en Francia, a través de las obras de Marion, Romano y Barbaras. Nuestra hipótesis de lectura es que estas fenomenologías, por un lado la de Marion y Romano, y por el otro la de Barbaras, coinciden en dos cuestiones: 1) el privilegio que otorgan a la donación y, 2) la necesidad de pensar la subjetividad abandonando el paradigma de la subjetividad trascendental husserliano. Ambas propuestas requieren de un examen de (...) las intenciones metódicas de la fenomenología husserliana y es, en dicha discusión, que ganan, al mismo tiempo, la originalidad de su marcha fenomenológica.: The aim of this paper is to examine the new phenomenological tendencies in France through the works of Marion, Roman, and Barbaras. Our hypothesis is that these phenomenologies, on the one hand those of Marion and Romano, and on the other hand that of Barbaras, agree on two main points: 1) the priority given to donation and 2) the need to think about subjectivity by putting aside Husserl's paradigm of transcendental subjectivity. We suggest that both philosophical approaches require an examination of Husserl's methodological pretensions, because it is in this context that the originality of their own phenomenological ideas can be noticed. The path that Ricoeur peruses is twofold and not only by methodological precaution, that of philosophy, but also of the other philosophy, which is confused with non-philosophy, as is presented today by literature or science. Non-philosophy in Ricoeur is located in favor of religion and here lies linguistics, literary history, general hermeneutics and other disciplines. In this sense, philosophy is not simply critical, it is also placed in the order of conviction, and religious conviction itself has an internal critical dimension.

Over de vraag hoe geloof en verstand zich onderling verhouden, bestaat geen communis opinio; ook in het verleden is die er nooit geweest. Integendeel, de filosofiehistorie vertoont een complexe verscheidenheid van opvattingen. In dit artikel heb ik deze geordend in een beperkt aantal grondschema’s of grondmodellen. Ik breng zeven van die grondmodellen ter sprake, en duid ze kortweg aan met de termen identificatie, conflict, subordinatie, complementariteit, fundering, authenticiteit en transformatie. Mijn analyse laat zien hoe deze modellen, eenmaal present op het (...) publieke forum, zich blijvend doen gelden, tot op de dag van vandaag. The author presents Ricoeur as a philosopher who advocates a sharp distinction between philosophy and theology. Yet, Ricoeur’s oeuvre testifies of a deep interest into Biblical hermeneutics. The author argues how the distinction between philosophy and theology runs through the whole of Ricoeur’s work, together with his interest in Biblical hermeneutics. What Ricoeur has said on Biblical hermeneutics can only be understood from a broad view of his philosophical themes. The actual approach of Ricoeur in matters of Bible and theology (...) is presented under the headings of listening, speaking, acting, falling silent, and believing. For Merleau-Ponty, the question of phenomenological method was always connected to the problem of expression, in that the results of successful expression can for him amount to a catching of the world “in its nascent state”. In other words, elucidating the phenomena as they show themselves demands a certain amount of creativity to come through. But even though creative expression is without doubt of chief importance for Merleau-Ponty, it is not so easy to determine what exactly it consists in. Minimally, (...) it is more demanding than simply repeating an already formulated expression. On the other hand, it cannot start from nothing – we must begin within an existing tradition, with its acquired expressions, that we somehow take up and transform. A recurrent image of creative expression comes from Malraux, who claimed that it is a “coherent deformation” of what is given in the world. In this paper, I will use Saussure’s principle of analogy to throw light upon the notion of coherent deformation and of creativity. Although Merleau-Ponty merely mentions this principle in passing, I argue that it can clarify the productivity of language that he saw as crucial also for Saussure’s linguistics. (shrink)

Le travail et la formation des adultes sont aujourd’hui traversés de syntagmes mobilisés par une idéologie managériale dévoyant les termes d’autonomie, de responsabilité ou de capacité. À partir d’une analyse critique, l’article se propose de resituer ces glissements sémantiques dans le champ des recherches et des pratiques actuelles de la formation. Le recours aux travaux de Ricoeur et d’Honneth permet ensuite d’aborder leurs contributions respectives pour prolonger ces questions et leurs apports, en particulier, pour penser la reconnaissance. Corporate citizenship, social responsibility and sustainability reports could be analyzed from a philosophical viewpoint. In this article, we will use Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutic philosophy to assess the narrativity of such reports. Out of a philosophical viewpoint, our exploratory study analyzes the contents of ten reports: two corporate citizenship reports, three corporate social responsibility reports, and five sustainability reports. Those reports are arising in-time and are thus referring to past corporate events and phenomena. Sometimes such reports introduce a corporate world-dream that (...) could emphasize various issues such as human dignity and inclusiveness/diversity, global health, and planetary stewardship. They could even convey a subversive ideal that could strongly shake the foundations of business. The way business corporations are understanding corporate citizenship and sustainability could, more or less radically, change the way we are doing business. However, those corporate citizenship, social responsibility and sustainability reports do not have any emplotment. They are thus stories that cannot be considered as narratives. We could call them “would-be” narratives. (shrink)

In this article, we explore the implicit conceptions of business ethics and social responsibility of owners−managers of small and medium enterprises (SME) in Cameroon. While using a hermeneutical approach, our main objective is to clarify how Sub-Saharan African business people themselves understand and define corporate responsibility in their particular economic and political environment. Our aim is not to deliver an empirical study of business practices and management behavior in SMEs. We wish to discuss which responsibilities they themselves judge to be (...) relevant and which can legitimately be attributed to them by third parties. Secondly, we relate our findings to other empirical work on SMEs, in Africa and elsewhere. It is shown that there are similarities with the way in which SMEs in Europe interpret their responsibility, but also striking differences. Further, we relate our findings to some theoretical controversies around corporate social responsibility (CSR) in SMEs, to questions about evaluation tools for CSR in the SME context, and to the role of CSR with respect to poverty alleviation in developing countries. El presente artículo tiene como pretensión una comprensión del duelo como una experiencia hermenéutica de la muerte propia a pesar del carácter insustituible de la muerte propia. Dicha comprensión del duelo se efectuará a partir de la analítica del Dasein de Heidegger en el contexto de Sein und Zeit en diálogo con la filosofía hermenéutica de Paul Ricœur, en cuya obra desarrolla una comprensión de la muerte y la experiencia de la pérdida del otro en el duelo como un acceso (...) interpretativo e interpersonal a la muerte propia. Con ello se busca comprender el fenómeno del duelo como el acceso a una “anticipación respectiva” de la muerte propia que permita pensar el poder-ser entero no desde el no-estar-en-casa de la angustia que parece involucrar la soledad del ser-para-la-muerte, sino desde un poder-ser entero que recoja el carácter mediador del otro en la comprensión de mi totalidad. Il s’agit dans cet article de montrer que l’éthique ricoeurienne exposée dans Soi-même comme un autre peut et doit être pensée par rapport à l’anthropologie et l’ontologie que le philosophe a progressivement développées depuis son premier grand projet philosophique phénoménologique jusqu’à son œuvre de maturité. Dans le but d’esquisser cette approche des fondements onto-anthropologiques de l’éthique ricœurienne, nous partons d’abord des textes de jeunesse de Ricœur dans lesquels il développe une longue méditation sur le risque qu’implique l’acte de la liberté: (...) risque d’être soi-même, de décider et d’agir sur le monde avec et pour les autres. Puis, notre analyse s’intéresse à la conception ricœurienne du consentement et de l’affectivité afin de voir dans quelle mesure elle est susceptible d’éclairer le développement de l’éthique et de la notion de sujet éthique dans le cadre de la phénoménologie herméneutique de Ricœur. L’article conduit ainsi une analyse de la question du “je peux” et du “je veux” dans Le volontaire et l’involontaire, en passant par L’homme faillible pour déboucher enfin sur un examen de “l’homme agissant et souffrant” dans Soi-même comme un autre. In this paper, the author reconsiders the role played by Lacan in Ricœur’s philosophy of psychoanalysis by reconstructing the history of the relationship between psychoanalysis and philosophy, and by focusing on some of the important aspects of the reception of Ricœur’s work in France. The reception of his work is directly connected to Lacan’s School and the role played by his followers, who were against Ricœur. Some of the unpublished documents kept at the Fonds Ricœur should help to clarify some (...) points in this regard. These documents should help to demonstrate how the incompatibility of Ricœur’s interpretation with Lacan’s structural perspective was determined more by their personal incompatibility and their different interests than by a genuine incommensurability in their theories. En este artículo se examinarán algunas intersecciones entre el pensamiento de Ricoeur y de Hegel en torno a temas vinculados con la voluntad, la razón práctica y el reconocimiento. Se mostrará que, tras una etapa inicial de reticencia a ocuparse con la filosofía de Hegel, esta se convierte para Ricoeur a mediados de los años 60 en una referencia ineludible en su confrontación con Freud, hasta el punto de llegar a experimentarla como una tentación, de la que parece querer desprenderse, (...) sobre todo en su reflexión sobre lo trágico y la historia en los años 80, pero que reaparece con fuerza en la última década del siglo pasado, hasta culminar con la teoría del reconocimiento, para la cual Hegel constituye una fuente principal, aunque no exclusiva. This article is about some intersecting points between Ricoeur's and Hegel's thought around issues related to free will, practical reason and recognition. After an initial stage of reluctance to deal with the philosophy of Hegel, it becomes for Ricoeur, in the mid-60s, an essential reference in his confrontation with Freud, feeling his influence as a temptation, which he wants to avoid, especially in his reflection about tragedy and history in the 80s. But this influence appears again notoriously, in the last decade of the 20thcentury, culminating with the theory of recognition, to which Hegel constitutes a major source, but not an exclusive one. Philosophy, art and leadership have been considered in previous studies, nevertheless rarely have all three been blended in one. The aim of this thesis resided in the attempt to build an unfixed conceptual net, having the ambition to shed light on the innermost parts of the leader; by collecting insights from philosophical notions, the figure of an artistic leader arises. The personal importance of this work was rooted in the hope of a leadership sourced in an inner reflection. Through qualitative (...) research, we made use of concepts derived from Kant, Foucault, Nietzsche, Heidegger and several other thinkers, targeting the ontological, sensible, and reflecting centers of the figure of the artistic leader; which ultimately was completed by primary data retrieved from experts. At the heart of the thesis, namely the fourth strand, these thoughts are developed in two volumes. The first regards the emergence of the artistic leader, a concise ontology of this figure, the suggestion of the paramount importance played by self-reflection and the ‘care’ as found in a Foucauldian understanding, as well as the mechanisms of the mind of the leader. The eventual practices of the artistic leader are developed in the second volume, seen as expressive channels through which this figure could interact with the environment. The thesis - by its very nature - is open ended, as it is a suggestion of a figure drawing its relevance in the continual constructive thinking this work hopes to generate in the reader. (shrink)

Se busca aportar elementos conceptuales para una filosofía del consentimiento, al interrogar el privilegio que otorga Paul Ricoeur a la afirmación con respecto a las múltiples formas de negatividad inscritas en el ser humano y en sus acciones. Para ello, se propone un análisis del consentimiento próximo a Le volontaire et l'involontaire, en el que se tiene siempre en la mira la hermenéutica del sí-mismo y del homo capax, desarrolladas por Ricoeur desde 1990. Se defiende que el consentimiento va siempre (...) acompañado de la paciencia, y que ambos pueden y deben ser pensados como elementos estructurales que constituyen al sí-mismo. By inquiring into the privilege granted by Paul Ricoeur to affirmation with respect to the multiple forms of negativity inscribed in human beings and their actions, the article seeks to contribute conceptual elements for a philosophy of consent. To this effect, it proposes an analysis of consent along the lines of Le volontaire et l'involontaire, bearing in mind the hermeneutics of self and of homo capax, developed by Ricoeur since 1990. The paper argues that consent goes hand in hand with patience, and that both can and should be thought as structural elements that constitute the oneself. Neste artigo, procura-se contribuir elementos conceituais para uma filosofia do consentimento, ao interrogar o privilégio que outorga Paul Ricoeur à afirmação a respeito das múltiplas formas de negatividade inscritas no ser humano e em suas ações. Para isso, propõe-se uma análise do consentimento próximo a Le volontaire et l'involontaire, no qual se tem sempre no alvo a hermenêutica do si-mesmo e do homo capax, desenvolvidas por Ricoeur desde 1990. Defende-se que o consentimento vai sempre acompanhado da paciência e que ambos podem e devem ser pensados como elementos estruturais que constituem o si-mesmo. (shrink)

En medio del constante replanteo que la filosofía y las ciencias humanas en general han venido haciendo de nociones básicas como la de 'existencia', un horizonte de planteo intercultural permitirá acoger mejor las demandas de las sociedades contemporáneas cruzadas por diferentes centros histórico-culturales y por el fenómeno común de los movimientos sociales exigiendo cada uno reconocimiento de sus propios derechos. Se concibe tal planteo como una 'odisea de la libertad', ya que intenta perseguir el difícil camino de la libertad -en (...) tanto poder ser- hacia la realización de sí mismo, en relación al reconocimiento de sí y de los otros, en el ámbito comunitario y político. Sin olvidar la buena relación con la naturaleza y el cosmos y con lo que trasciende a cada realidad, en tanto abrigo de infinitud en el ámbito artístico y religioso. Se advierte entonces que el camino a la libertad atraviesa todo tipo de dificultades. Amid the constant reconsideration of basic notions such as "existence" by philosophy and human sciences, an intercultural proposal will give a better response to the demands of contemporary societies, which are crossed by different historical-cultural centers and by the common phenomenon of social movements claiming for their own rights. Such proposal is conceived as "an odyssey of freedom", since it pursues the hard path of freedom-as possibility to be-towards his own realization and regarding his own and others' acknowledgement in the community and political sphere, not forgetting the good relationship with nature and the cosmos and with what transcends each reality, as a shelter of infinity in the artistic and religious field. It is then noticed that the path to freedom undergoes all kinds of difficulties. (shrink)

Gadamer’s view on truth and understanding does not offer a real solution on Dilthey’s problem, because it involves a concept of language that doesn’t admit the communication between text, action and history in the same time with the constitution of a field of autonomous significations. Gadamer denies Dilthey’s naïf objectivism and the representation-language, but he can not rebuild, on an other level, the reference. Thus, the historical sciences should adopt the model of poetical language, considered as non-referential, but it would (...) be better to find resources in a non-ostensive referential language. Such language is the narrative one, if it is considered from the point of view of contemporary theories of linguistic and semiotics, which admits the idea of text’s world. According to these theories the analogies with the text world make possible a reconstruction of action. This direction was followed by Paul Ricoeur, who found a solution on Dilthey’s problem avoiding the naïf objectivism without compromising the spirit of gadamerian reflection on understanding. RESUMEN Las tensiones y los vínculos posibles entre razón y violencia son un problema mayor para la filosofía. La obra de Eric Weil se consagra precisamente al análisis de las figuras históricas de dicha tensión, y su obra mayor, Logique de la Philosophie, desarrolla lo fundamental de dicho propósito. Se analiza la manera como Weil, desde la categoría de la acción -última categoría concreta de la filosofía-, en vínculo con las categorías precedentes (absoluto, obra, finito) y con las categorías formales (...) (sentido y sabiduría), enfrenta este desafío siempre nuevo para la filosofía. ABSTRACT The tensions and potential links between reason and violence are a significant philosophical problem. Eric Weil's systematic work, as well as his numerous articles and lectures, is dedicated to the analysis of the historical figures of such tensions. His major work, Logique de la Philosophie, develops that objective. The article analyzes how Weil faces this always new challenge for philosophy, on the basis of the category of action -the last concrete category of his philosophy-, together with the preceding categories (absolute, unmediated particular, finite) and the formal categories (meaning and wisdom). RESUMO As tensões e os vínculos possíveis entre razão e violência são um problema maior para a filosofia. A obra de Eric Weil se consagra precisamente à análise das figuras históricas dessa tensão, e sua obra maior, Logique de la Philosophie, desenvolve o fundamental desse propósito. Analisa-se a maneira como Weil, a partir da categoria da ação -última categoria concreta da filosofia-, em vínculo com as categorias precedentes (absoluto, obra, finito) e com as categorias formais (sentido e sabedoria), enfrenta esse desafio sempre novo para a filosofia.
