  1. What does it mean to be a ‘subject’? Malabou’s plasticity and going beyond the question of the inhuman, posthuman, and nonhuman.Sevket Benhur Oral - 2021 - Educational Philosophy and Theory 53 (10):998-1010.
We are no longer in a position to attribute a positive essence to humanity and its presumed centrality. What it means to be human cannot be ascertained once and for all or in any a priori fashion....

  • 'Geraniums and Delphiniums ': Trauma, Ethics, and Medical Communications.Elspeth Graham - 2017 - Journal of Medical Humanities 38 (2):151-172.
More official complaints about medical treatment in the UK relate to poor communications than to wrong diagnoses. This article, in considering the importance of communications training for clinicians, is structured into three sections. From this, the third (...)

There has been the recurrent suspicion that community, harmony, cohesion, and similar relational goods as understood in the African ethical tradition threaten to occlude difference. Often, it has been Western defenders of liberty who have raised the concern that these characteristically sub-Saharan values fail to account adequately for individuality, although some contemporary African thinkers have expressed the same concern. In this chapter, I provide a certain understanding of the sub-Saharan value of communal relationship and demonstrate that it entails a substantial (...)

  • Sen and Žižek on the Multiculturalist Approach to Non-Violence.Marlon Jesspher De Vera - 2020 - Mabini Review 9:111-134.
This paper analyzes areas of convergence in the works of Amartya Sen and Slavoj Žižek in their criticisms of the multiculturalist approach to non-violence. First, Žižek’s characterization of the liberal discourse of guilt and fear is presented. Then, Sen’s key ideas on multiculturalism, tolerance, and rational critique are explicated. Next, a synthesis of Sen and Žižek’s notions of universality, freedom, and rationality, as well as of their critical conceptions of globalization and anti-globalization are discussed. Subsequently, Sen and Žižek’s divergences on (...)

  • Mapping the Atomic Unconscious: Postcolonial Capital in Nuclear Glow.Katherine Lawless - 2018 - Mediations 31 (2).
Turning to the ways immaterial forms of “accumulation and material forms of labor intersect” under postcolonial capitalism, Katherine Lawless maps the relation between cultural media and the flow of energy and asks: “What happens if we map the emergence of global memory cultures alongside the transition to nuclear energy?”.
