For more than a century, phenomenology’s relation to history has remained a problem for phenomenological analysis. Starting from the often-used metaphor of the “horizon of experience” this article discusses three different types of intercultural hermeneutics, which respectively conceive hermeneutic interpretation as a widening of horizons, a fusion of horizons, and a dissemination of horizons. It is argued that these subsequent stages in the history of hermeneutics have their origin in—but are not fully restricted to—respectively premodern, modern and postmodern stages of globalization. This study examines the sources of human divergence as arise from Wilhelm Dilthey’s writings. While Dilthey assigns a central role to the human subject, he never synthesizes his major ideas on subjectivity into a unified theory of subjective uniqueness. I will show that such a theory can be derived from his writings through the combination of three ideas that appear in them. This thesis explores the ethical impact of literary narrative fictions on the reader. It does so by focusing mainly on the reading experience since one of the main claims of the thesis is that literary narrative fictions are co-products of the author and the reader. Dilthey es uno de los máximos representantes de la hermenéutica. En este artículo pretendo realizar una reconstrucción de su filosofía a los efectos de develar el papel del individuo en la historia. Se buscará detectar la incipiente noción diltheyana de identidad narrativa a través de sus conceptos de hombre, historia y comunidad. Se revisarán estas concepciones a los efectos de actualizar el pensamiento de Dilthey. Asimismo se buscará mostrar los aportes de Dilthey para la noción de identidad personal de Ricoeu. This essay joins Wilhelm Dilthey’s conception of the metaphysical impulse as a flight from the tragedy of human finitude with Ludwig Wittgenstein’s understanding of how language bewitches intelligence. We contend that there are features of the phenomenology of language that play a constitutive and pervasive role in the formation of metaphysical illusion. |
