  • Algorithmic Measurement Procedures.Aldo F. G. Solis-Labastida & Jorge G. Hirsch - 2020 - Foundations of Physics 50 (8):749-763.
    Measurements are shown to be processes designed to return figures: they are effective. This effectivity allows for a formalization as Turing machines, which can be described employing computation theory. Inspired in the halting problem we draw some limitations for measurement procedures: procedures that verify if a quantity is measured cannot work in every case.

  • Perception and Coincidence in Helmholtz’s Theory of Measurement.Matthias Neuber - 2018 - Journal for the History of Analytical Philosophy 6 (3).
    The present paper is concerned with Helmholtz’s theory of measurement. It will be argued that an adequate understanding of this theory depends on how Helmholtz’s application of the concepts of perception and coincidence is interpreted. In contrast both to conventionalist and Kantian readings of Helmholtz’s theory, a more realistic interpretation will be suggested.

    A slight modification of Helmholtz’s metrical approach to the foundations of geometry leads to the locally Euclidian character of space without restriction of the curvature. A bolder generalization involving time measurement leads to the locally Minkowskian character of spacetime.
