  1. Profiniteness, Monadicity and Universal Models in Modal Logic.Matteo De Berardinis & Silvio Ghilardi - forthcoming - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic.
  • Extendible Formulas in Two Variables in Intuitionistic Logic.Nick Bezhanishvili & Dick de Jongh - 2012 - Studia Logica 100 (1):61-89.
We give alternative characterizations of exact, extendible and projective formulas in intuitionistic propositional calculus IPC in terms of n-universal models. From these characterizations we derive a new syntactic description of all extendible formulas of IPC in two variables. For the formulas in two variables we also give an alternative proof of Ghilardi’s theorem that every extendible formula is projective.

  • Leo Esakia on Duality in Modal and Intuitionistic Logics.Guram Bezhanishvili (ed.) - 2014 - Dordrecht, Netherland: Springer.
This volume is dedicated to Leo Esakia's contributions to the theory of modal and intuitionistic systems. Consisting of 10 chapters, written by leading experts, this volume discusses Esakia’s original contributions and consequent developments that have helped to shape duality theory for modal and intuitionistic logics and to utilize it to obtain some major results in the area. Beginning with a chapter which explores Esakia duality for S4-algebras, the volume goes on to explore Esakia duality for Heyting algebras and its generalizations (...)

ABSTRACT A simple method of axiomatizing every finite intermediate propositional logic by a finite set of axioms with the minimal number of variables is proposed. The method is based on Jankov's characteristic formulas.

  • Criteria for admissibility of inference rules. Modal and intermediate logics with the branching property.Vladimir V. Rybakov - 1994 - Studia Logica 53 (2):203 - 225.
The main result of this paper is the following theorem: each modal logic extendingK4 having the branching property belowm and the effective m-drop point property is decidable with respect to admissibility. A similar result is obtained for intermediate intuitionistic logics with the branching property belowm and the strong effective m-drop point property. Thus, general algorithmic criteria which allow to recognize the admissibility of inference rules for modal and intermediate logics of the above kind are found. These criteria are applicable to (...)

  • The Admissible Rules of ${{mathsf{BD}_{2}}}$ and ${mathsf{GSc}}$.Jeroen P. Goudsmit - 2018 - Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic 59 (3):325-353.
The Visser rules form a basis of admissibility for the intuitionistic propositional calculus. We show how one can characterize the existence of covers in certain models by means of formulae. Through this characterization, we provide a new proof of the admissibility of a weak form of the Visser rules. Finally, we use this observation, coupled with a description of a generalization of the disjunction property, to provide a basis of admissibility for the intermediate logics BD2 and GSc.

  • Decidability of admissibility: On a problem by Friedman and its solution by Rybakov.Jeroen P. Goudsmit - 2021 - Bulletin of Symbolic Logic 27 (1):1-38.
Rybakov proved that the admissible rules of $\mathsf {IPC}$ are decidable. We give a proof of the same theorem, using the same core idea, but couched in the many notions that have been developed in the mean time. In particular, we illustrate how the argument can be interpreted as using refinements of the notions of exactness and extendibility.

We investigate finitarity of unification types in locally finite varieties of Heyting algebras, giving both positive and negative results. We make essential use of finite dualities within a conceptualization for E-unification theory 733–752) relying on the algebraic notion of a projective object.

  • Finitely generated free Heyting algebras: the well-founded initial segment.R. Elageili & J. K. Truss - 2012 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 77 (4):1291-1307.
In this paper we describe the well-founded initial segment of the free Heyting algebra α on finitely many, α, generators. We give a complete classification of initial sublattices of ₂ isomorphic to ₁ (called 'low ladders'), and prove that for 2 < α < ω, the height of the well-founded initial segment of α.

  • Optimal natural dualities for varieties of Heyting algebras.B. A. Davey & H. A. Priestley - 1996 - Studia Logica 56 (1-2):67 - 96.
The techniques of natural duality theory are applied to certain finitely generated varieties of Heyting algebras to obtain optimal dualities for these varieties, and thereby to address algebraic questions about them. In particular, a complete characterisation is given of the endodualisable finite subdirectly irreducible Heyting algebras. The procedures involved rely heavily on Priestley duality for Heyting algebras.

We study finitely generated free Heyting algebras from a topological and from a model theoretic point of view. We review Bellissima’s representation of the finitely generated free Heyting algebra; we prove that it yields an embedding in the profinite completion, which is also the completion with respect to a naturally defined metric. We give an algebraic interpretation of the Kripke model used by Bellissima as the principal ideal spectrum and show it to be first order interpretable in the Heyting algebra, (...)

  • Hereditarily Structurally Complete Intermediate Logics: Citkin’s Theorem Via Duality.Nick Bezhanishvili & Tommaso Moraschini - 2023 - Studia Logica 111 (2):147-186.
A deductive system is said to be structurally complete if its admissible rules are derivable. In addition, it is called hereditarily structurally complete if all its extensions are structurally complete. Citkin (1978) proved that an intermediate logic is hereditarily structurally complete if and only if the variety of Heyting algebras associated with it omits five finite algebras. Despite its importance in the theory of admissible rules, a direct proof of Citkin’s theorem is not widely accessible. In this paper we offer (...)
