We use set-theoretic tools to make a model-theoretic contribution. In particular, we construct a single \-sentence \ that codes Kurepa trees to prove the following statements: The spectrum of \ is consistently equal to \ and also consistently equal to \\), where \ is weakly inaccessible.The amalgamation spectrum of \ is consistently equal to \ and \\), where again \ is weakly inaccessible. This is the first example of an \-sentence whose spectrum and amalgamation spectrum are consistently both right-open and (...) right-closed. It also provides a positive answer to a question in Souldatos :533–551, 2014).Consistently, \ has maximal models in finite, countable, and uncountable many cardinalities. This complements the examples given in Baldwin et al. :545–565, 2016) and Baldwin and Souldatos :444–452, 2019) of sentences with maximal models in countably many cardinalities.Consistently, \ and there exists an \-sentence with models in \, but no models in \. This relates to a conjecture by Shelah that if \, then any \-sentence with a model of size \ also has a model of size \. Our result proves that \ can not be replaced by \, even if \. (shrink)

We highlight connections between accessible categories and abstract elementary classes , and provide a dictionary for translating properties and results between the two contexts. We also illustrate a few applications of purely category-theoretic methods to the study of AECs, with model-theoretically novel results. In particular, the category-theoretic approach yields two surprising consequences: a structure theorem for categorical AECs, and a partial stability spectrum for weakly tame AECs.

We use some notions from computability in an uncountable setting to describe a difference between the “Zilber field” of size ℵ1ℵ1 and the “Zilber cover” of size ℵ1ℵ1.

We prove two results on the stability spectrum for Lω1,ω. Here [Formula: see text] denotes an appropriate notion of Stone space of m-types over M. Theorem for unstable case: Suppose that for some positive integer m and for every α μ, K is not i-stable in μ. These results provide a new kind of sufficient condition for the unstable case and shed some light on the spectrum of strictly stable theories in this context. The methods avoid the use of compactness (...) in the theory under study. In this paper, we expound the construction of tree indiscernibles for sentences of Lω1,ω. Further we provide some context for a number of variants on the Ehrenfeucht–Mostowski construction. (shrink)
