Visions of Compassion: Western Scientists and Tibetan Buddhists Examine Human Nature.Richard J. Davidson & Anne Harrington (eds.) - 2001 - Oxford University Press USA.
This book examines how Western behavioral science--which has generally focused on negative aspects of human nature--holds up to cross-cultural scrutiny, in particular the Tibetan Buddhist celebration of the human potential for altruism, empathy, and compassion. Resulting from a meeting between the Dalai Lama, leading Western scholars, and a group of Tibetan monks, this volume includes excerpts from these extraordinary dialogues as well as engaging essays exploring points of difference and overlap between the two perspectives.

From deficit to desire: A philosophical reconsideration of action models of psychopathology.Larry Davidson Golan Shahar - 2007 - Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Psychology 14 (3):pp. 215-232.
Emerging action perspectives on psychopathology depict individuals as actively shaping those environmental conditions that then impact on their risk for psychopathology, resilience in the face of it, and successful recovery from it. This view, although having important implications for research and clinical practice, has yet to be articulated in terms of its underlying philosophical framework. To begin to address this challenge, we situate action theory in the context of the writings of Deleuze and Guattari, who, in their seemingly anti-psychiatric series (...)

Can media literacy help to promote civic participation? It’s not quite that simple.Ianis Bucholtz, Vineta Silkāne & Agnese Dāvidsone - forthcoming - Communications.
A number of previous studies have documented the link between media literacy and civic or political participation, and some researchers argue that the advancement of media literacy may encourage citizens to take part in addressing various issues of societal concern. However, the previous studies tend to include relatively few civic or political activities in the measurements and do not demonstrate in detail how different dimensions of media literacy are related to particular forms of participation. This study addresses these issues using (...)

Empowering Transformation: A Contemporary Medical Mission Case Study from Rural China.Veronica J. D.-Davidson - 2011 - Transformation: An International Journal of Holistic Mission Studies 28 (2):138-148.
The paper presents a case study of sustainable development in rural China through a medical mission and missionary education initiative that sought to empower locals through dental health care education. The training method used was culturally adapted so that following the facilitators’ departure, the dental clinic continued to be run by the trained locals who, then, also went on to empower others using the same training method.
