Specters of Translation: Jacques Derrida, Safaa Fathy, and Nom à la mer.Max Cavitch - 2021 - Oxford Literary Review 43 (2):209-248.
This essay explores the film collaborations of Franco-Egyptian filmmaker Safaa Fathy and Franco-Maghrebian philosopher Jacques Derrida, offering an extended reading of their court-métrage, Nom à la mer —a film about language, exile, and loss, made by a pair of wanderers both keenly interested in the spectral effects of translation as they haunt the filmic medium. Nom à la mer is a cinematic rendering of the French translation of Fathy's original, Arabic-language poem, recited by Derrida in voice-off as (...)

On Extended Neoteric Ranked Set Sampling Plan: Likelihood Function Derivation and Parameter Estimation.Fathy H. Riad, Mohamed A. Sabry, Ehab M. Almetwally, Ramy Aldallal, Randa Alharbi & Md Moyazzem Hossain - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-13.
The extended neoteric ranked set sampling plan proposed by Taconeli and Cabral has proven to outperform many one stages and two stages ranked set sampling plans when estimating the mean and the variance for different populations. Therefore, in this paper, the likelihood function based on ENRSS is proposed and used for estimation of the parameters of the inverted Nadarajah–Haghighi distribution. An extensive Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the proposed likelihood function, and the efficiency of (...)

Metals: Typical and less typical, transition and inner transition. [REVIEW]Fathi Habashi - 2009 - Foundations of Chemistry 12 (1):31-39.
While most chemists agree on what is a metal and what is a non-metal there is a disagreement with respect to what is a metalloid and what is a transition metal. It is believed that this problem can be solved if two new terms are adopted: typical and less typical metals. These new terms will also help reconcile the European Periodic Table versus the North American regarding numbering of groups as well as the IUPAC numbering which could be as well (...)

A Structural Model of Teacher Self-Efficacy, Emotion Regulation, and Psychological Wellbeing Among English Teachers.Shen Xiyun, Jalil Fathi, Naser Shirbagi & Farnoosh Mohammaddokht - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Because of the exacting nature of teaching, identifying factors affecting teachers’ mental health and psychological wellbeing are of paramount importance. Parallel with this line of inquiry, the goal of this project was to test a model of psychological wellbeing based on teacher self-efficacy and emotion regulation in an EFL context. To this end, 276 Iranian English teachers participated in this survey. First, the measurement models for the three latent constructs were verified through performing Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Then Structural Equation Modeling (...)

    ‘“I never met a me”: Philosophy and Identity in D’ailleurs, Derrida.’.Marguerite La Caze - 2019 - Derrida Today 12 (2):152-170.
The tension between the absence of identity and the feeling of presence theorised in Jacques Derrida’s philosophy is revealed in D’ailleurs Derrida, a film by Safaa Fathy (1999). Fathy’s film has had limited scholarly attention, yet it makes a distinctive contribution both to understanding and questioning Derridean thought. I argue that the not-meness of identity is revealed by Fathy through the theme of ‘elsewhere’ (ailleurs) in the film and yet it allows the audience to experience the (...)

A Pandemic Instrument can Optimize the Regime Complex for AMR by Striking a Balance between Centralization and Decentralization.Isaac Weldon, Safaa Yaseen & Steven J. Hoffman - 2022 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 50 (S2):26-33.
Global antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is currently governed by a decentralized regime complex composed of multiple institutions with overlapping and sometimes conflicting principles, norms, rules, and procedures. Such a decentralized regime complex provides certain advantages and disadvantages when compared to a centralized regime. A pandemic instrument can optimize the regime complex for AMR by leveraging the strengths of both centralization and decentralization. Existing climate treaties under the UNFCCC offer lessons for achieving this hybrid approach.

Die Künste Im Dialog der Kulturen: Europa Und Seine Muslimischen Nachbarn.Fathi Triki, Jacques Poulain & Christoph Wulf (eds.) - 2007 - Akademie Verlag.

NIPSNAP protein family emerges as a sensor of mitochondrial health.Esmat Fathi, Jay M. Yarbro & Ramin Homayouni - 2021 - Bioessays 43 (6):2100014.
Since their discovery over two decades ago, the molecular and cellular functions of the NIPSNAP family of proteins (NIPSNAPs) have remained elusive until recently. NIPSNAPs interact with a variety of mitochondrial and cytoplasmic proteins. They have been implicated in multiple cellular processes and associated with different physiologic and pathologic conditions, including pain transmission, Parkinson's disease, and cancer. Recent evidence demonstrated a direct role for NIPSNAP1 and NIPSNAP2 proteins in regulation of mitophagy, a process that is critical for cellular health and (...)
