Thirty years after the conference that gave rise to The Structure of Scientific Theories, there is renewed interest in the nature of theories and models. However, certain crucial issues from thirty years ago are reprised in current discussions; specifically: whether the diversity of models in the science can be captured by some unitary account; and whether the temporal dimension of scientific practice can be represented by such an account. After reviewing recent developments we suggest that these issues can be accommodated (...) within the partial structures formulation of the semantic or model-theoretic approach. (shrink)

We propose a formalization of Meinong's theory of objects with the help of Hilbert's $\epsilon$-symbol and a paraconsistent logical system, with an eye towards its application in an axiomatization of the natural sciences.

We first show that a theorem by Cartan that generalizes the Frobenius integrability theorem allows us (given certain conditions) to obtain noncurvature solutions for the differential Bianchi conditions and for higher-degree similar relations. We then prove that there is no algorithmic procedure to determine, for a reasonable restricted algebra of functions on spacetime, whether a given connection form satisfies the preceding conditions. A parallel result gives a version of Gödel's first incompleteness theorem within an (axiomatized) theory of gauge fields.

S. Jaśkowski introduced the discussive propositional calculus D₂ as a basis for a logic which could be used as underlying logic of inconsistent but nontrivial theories. D₂ has afterwards been extended to a first-order predicate calculus and to a higher-order logic. In this paper we present a natural version of D₂, in the sense of Jaśkowski and Gentzen; as a consequence, we suggest a new formulation of the discussive predicate calculus. A semantics for the new calculus is also presented.

8 March, now known as International Women’s Day, is a day for feminist claims where demonstrations are organized in over 150 countries, with the participation of millions of women all around the world. These demonstrations can be viewed as collective rituals and thus focus attention on the processes that facilitate different psychosocial effects. This work aims to explore the mechanisms involved in participation in the demonstrations of 8 March 2020, collective and ritualized feminist actions, and their correlates associated with personal (...) well-being and collective well-being, collective efficacy and collective growth, and behavioral intention to support the fight for women’s rights. To this end, a cross-cultural study was conducted with the participation of 2,854 people from countries in Latin America and Europe, with a retrospective correlational cross-sectional design and a convenience sample. Participants were divided between demonstration participants and non-demonstrators or followers who monitored participants through the media and social networks. Compared with non-demonstrators and with males, female and non-binary gender respondents had greater scores in mechanisms and criterion variables. Further random-effects model meta-analyses revealed that the perceived emotional synchrony was consistently associated with more proximal mechanisms, as well as with criterion variables. Finally, sequential moderation analyses showed that proposed mechanisms successfully mediated the effects of participation on every criterion variable. These results indicate that participation in 8M marches and demonstrations can be analyzed through the literature on collective rituals. As such, collective participation implies positive outcomes both individually and collectively, which are further reinforced through key psychological mechanisms, in line with a Durkheimian approach to collective rituals. In a previous work [the second and the third author, “On paraconsistent deontic logic”, Philosophia 16, 293-303 (1986)] investigated certain systems of paraconsistent deontic in order to investigate the problem of contradiction in the domain of ethics. This paper continues this line of research, studying some paraconsistent systems containing alethic and deontic modalities. This approach allows us to treat the principles of Kant (OA→ \diamond A) and Hintikka (\square A → OA) from the classical and from the paraconsistent point of (...) view, and to propose systems in which either, both, or neither of these principles is valid. Analisa-se o livro didático Fundamentos de Educação de Amaral Fontoura, livro destinado para alunas das Escolas Normais brasileiras, especialmente as fluminenses, pela Gráfica Editôra Aurora do Rio de Janeiro. Realizar-se-á a investigação levando em consideração a produção deste livro didático, buscando compreender a produção do autor, que publicou 13 diferentes títulos ou mais para a “Biblioteca Didática Brasileira”. Na obra Fundamentos de Educação, 342 páginas, 4 edições, analisar-se-á textos e paratextos. Quanto ao texto, analisar-se-á o índice, composto por 19 capítulos (...) e 2 anexos. No que se refere aos paratextos, verificar-se-á elementos tais como: capa, relação de obras produzidas por Amaral Fontoura, para a coleção “Biblioteca Didática Brasileira”, dedicatória, parecer do Secretário de Educação e Cultura do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, apresentação da coleção, e sua organização em quatro séries, além de uma nota prévia. Sendo assim, tem-se como fonte primária desta investigação, um exemplar da 4ª edição do livro didático Fundamentos de Educação de Amaral Fontoura. Buscando melhor compreender este compêndio em questão, analisar-se-á o Decreto-Lei n. 8.530, de 2 de janeiro de 1946, Lei Orgânica do Ensino Normal. A leitura deste livro permite compreender, em parte, o currículo das Escolas Normais nas décadas de 1940 e 1950 no Brasil, uma vez que o mesmo foi produzido dentro de uma coleção que se chamava “Biblioteca Didática Brasileira”, apresentando 5 volumes da série I “Escola Viva”, especializados para o currículo das Escolas Normais: volume 1: Fundamentos de Educação; volume 2 – Sociologia Educacional; volume 3 – Metodologia do Ensino Primário; volume 4 – Psicologia Geral; volume 5 – Psicologia Educacional, disciplinas estas, elencadas no Decreto-Lei n. 8.530, de 2 de janeiro de 1946, Lei Orgânica do Ensino Normal, artigos 7º, 8º e 9º. O presente artigo objetiva discutir sobre religião, ética e educação: experiências e vivências do quilombo do Mel da Pedreira, localizado no município de Macapá, estado do Amapá. Uma comunidade que possui sua história, práticas culturais e identidade marcadas pela religiosidade de matriz afro-ameríndia e posteriormente protestante. Nas últimas décadas a religiosidade protestante nessa localidade tem se intensificado com o surgimento de outras denominações cuja base é o pentecostalismo. Neste estudo são abordadas questões voltadas para os discursos religiosos, a ressignificação de (...) práticas culturais, a aplicabilidade da Lei n° 10.639/2003 no currículo escolar, entre outros aspectos que envolvem a cultura local, a religiosidade e a identidade negra. Trata-se de um estudo etnográfico de abordagem qualitativa que utilizou da pesquisa bibliográfica, da análise documental, da observação in loco, e da entrevista semiestruturada como forma de investigação. Os resultados da pesquisa revelam que as mudanças nesse quilombo não aconteceram somente por influência de fatores religiosos, mas, sobretudo, por reflexões sociais e interculturais da comunidade como espaço coletivo. Sobre a implementação das políticas de educação escolar quilombola no Amapá, estas estão caminhando em passos muito lentos, pois são normalmente ações pontuais e fragmentadas, sem articulação com a realidade regional. No que diz respeito ao currículo escolar, observa-se na escola local, ausência de um currículo construído a partir de valores e interesses da comunidade, da mesma forma, ausência de projetos pedagógicos articulados sobre os conteúdos previstos pela Lei n° 10.639/2003, bem como uma educação escolar quilombola de qualidade. É urgente o desenvolvimento de uma educação diferenciada, de qualidade, bem como a valorização e permanência de professores quilombolas e implementação de práticas pedagógicas e de cursos de formação continuada para atender à necessidade local.
