Internormative Gastronomies: Law, Nation and Identity.Richard Mohr & Nadirsyah Hosen - 2018 - In Stefan Huygebaert, Angela Condello, Sarah Marusek & Mark Antaki (eds.), Sensing the Nation's Law: Historical Inquiries Into the Aesthetics of Democratic Legitimacy. Cham: Springer Verlag. pp. 237-261.
Norms applying to food interact with conceptions of nationhood, identity and law. This occurs through gastronomies and ethico-religious standards, recognition and conviviality, and the voice of communities in the sourcing and labelling of their food. Law, nation and identity intersect in the notion of citizenship. The chapter moves from the tight relationships by which persons are constrained within overdetermined categories of state law and national citizenship, to explore the possibilities unleashed by a loosening of the bonds between law, nation and (...)

Distinguishing Science From Ideology: Truth, Facts or Interests?Richard Mohr - unknown
Recent policy debates are commonly framed as questions of “sci-ence” versus “ideology”. This is seen in polemics around issues that can be informed by bio–medical or geo–physical sciences: the coronavirus pandemic and climate change. The paper explores the basis for claims of difference between science and ideology: truth versus delusion; representations of reality and the means for interpreting it; and their relation to conflicting interests. Each of these three characteristics of ideology is explored by relating them to the methods of (...)

    Family Resemblance, Platonism, Universals.Richard D. Mohr - 1977 - Canadian Journal of Philosophy 7 (3):593 - 600.
Platonic universals received sympathetic attention at the turn of the century in the early writings of Moore and Russell. But this interest quickly waned with the empiricist and nominalist movements of the twenties and thirties. In this process of declining interest Wittgenstein's theory of family resemblance seemed to serve both as coup de grâce and post-mortem.I propose, however, that family resemblance far from being an adequate refutation of Platonic universals can actually be accommodated within a Platonic theory properly conceived. But (...)

    The mechanism of flux in Plato's "timaeus".Richard Mohr - 1980 - Apeiron 14 (2):96 - 114.
The paper argues that in the "timaeus" plato views the phenomena in and of themselves as a positive source of evil, moving erratically without psychic causes whether rational or irrational, direct or indirect, and so the paper argues that "timaeus" contradicts the psychic autokenetic doctrine from the "phaedrus" and "laws x". The argument is based on a detailed analysis of "timaeus", 52d-53a and 58a-c, plato's description of chaos an his 'atomic' theory.

    When normality fails: Discursive reactions to disaster.Richard Mohr - 2022 - Oñati Socio-Legal Series 12 (3).
Shocks from disasters challenge the normality of everyday life. Emotional and political reactions include anxiety and blame, but these must come together with knowledge through shared discourse to formulate responses, often immediate. The study draws on a phenomenological analysis of personal experience and discursive reactions to fires and the pandemic. It is informed by ethical and social approaches to epistemology and discourse, drawing on sociology of knowledge and studies of rhetoric. From this it is concluded that facts are agreed elements (...)
