Cultivating classroom democracy: Educational philosophy and classroom management for social justice.Shigeki Izawa - 2024 - Educational Philosophy and Theory 56 (2):135-144.
Inequality and injustice in education have been viewed from the perspective of social justice. Since the emergence of John Rawls’s A Theory of Justice, social justice issues have attracted the attention of social and political philosophers. Theoretical consequences of social and political philosophy have been actively incorporated into the field of education. However, the issue of educational justice remains controversial and requires further philosophical consideration. To further philosophical consideration, this paper explores how the class or the classroom can generate space (...)

Experience of After-Effect of Memory Update Reduces Sensitivity to Errors During Sensory-Motor Adaptation Task.Kenya Tanamachi, Jun Izawa, Satoshi Yamamoto, Daisuke Ishii, Arito Yozu & Yutaka Kohno - 2021 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 15.
Motor learning is the process of updating motor commands in response to a trajectory error induced by a perturbation to the body or vision. The brain has a great capability to accelerate learning by increasing the sensitivity of the memory update to the perceived trajectory errors. Conventional theory suggests that the statistics of perturbations or the statistics of the experienced errors induced by the external perturbations determine the learning speeds. However, the potential effect of another type of error perception, a (...)

Observational learning in the large-billed crow (Corvus macrorhynchos): Effect of demonstrator-observer dominance relationship.Ei-Ichi Izawa & Shigeru Watanabe - 2011 - Interaction Studies 12 (2):281-303.
Exploiting the skills of others enables individuals to reduce the risks and costs of resource innovation. Social corvids are known to possess sophisticated social and physical cognitive abilities. However, their capacity for imitative learning and its inter-individual transmission pattern remains mostly unexamined. Here we demonstrate the large-billed crows' ability to learn problem-solving techniques by observation and the dominance-dependent pattern in which this technique is transmitted. Crows were allowed to observe one of two box-opening behaviours performed by a dominant or subordinate (...)

Peptide drugs accelerate BMP‐2‐induced calvarial bone regeneration and stimulate osteoblast differentiation through mTORC1 signaling. [REVIEW]Yasutaka Sugamori, Setsuko Mise-Omata, Chizuko Maeda, Shigeki Aoki, Yasuhiko Tabata, Ramachandran Murali, Hisataka Yasuda, Nobuyuki Udagawa, Hiroshi Suzuki, Masashi Honma & Kazuhiro Aoki - 2016 - Bioessays 38 (8):717-725.
Both W9 and OP3‐4 were known to bind the receptor activator of NF‐κB ligand (RANKL), inhibiting osteoclastogenesis. Recently, both peptides were shown to stimulate osteoblast differentiation; however, the mechanism underlying the activity of these peptides remains to be clarified. A primary osteoblast culture showed that rapamycin, an mTORC1 inhibitor, which was recently demonstrated to be an important serine/threonine kinase for bone formation, inhibited the peptide‐induced alkaline phosphatase activity. Furthermore, both peptides promoted the phosphorylation of Akt and S6K1, an upstream molecule (...)
