This is an agreement between you and the PhilPapers Foundation. This agreement pertains to the following services: The PhilPapers search index accessible at philpapers.org, the PhilEvents calendar service accessible at philevents.org, the PhilJobs job board service accessible at philjobs.org, the MindPapers bibliography accessible at consc.net/mindpapers, the Online Papers on Consciousness bibliography accessible at consc.net/online, the PhilArchive service accessible at philarchive.org, the PhilPeople directory at philpeople.org, and any ancillary services operated by the PhilPapers Foundation (hereafter, "the Services"). In using the Services, you agree to the following terms:

1. All information (such as abstracts, articles, or other kinds of text) to which you may have access through the Services is the responsibility of the copyright holder and is subject to their intellectual property rights. Users may not modify or sell these works unless given permission by the copyright holder. Users may not submit material in a manner that violates the intellectual property rights associated with that material.

2. Regarding texts (for example, full articles) submitted to the PhilPapers Archive or PhilArchive: the PhilPapers Foundation acknowledges that it obtains no intellectual property rights to these texts. However, when submitting texts to our services, you give the PhilPapers Foundation a worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive licence to host and display these texts. Users have the right to request that texts they submitted be removed from PhilPapers and PhilArchive.

3. Regarding Facebook usage: We will not share your friends or other information obtained from your Facebook profile. We will not post on your Facebook wall or perform any other operation on Facebook on your behalf without explicitly asking for your permission.

4. Regarding all other content submitted to the Services: when submitting such content, you give the PhilPapers Foundation a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, display, and distribute this content. The PhilPapers Foundation reserves the right (but shall have no obligation) to pre-screen, review, flag, filter, modify, refuse or remove any information submitted to the Services. You agree to do your best to ensure the accuracy of all such content. We are committed to preserving your privacy. No personal information of a sensitive nature communicated to us will be made public without your explicit approval. Individuals have the right to have photos containing them removed from PhilPeople if they so request.

5. Originators are responsible for protecting and enforcing their intellectual property rights, and the PhilPapers Foundation or its partners have no obligation to do so on their behalf. We ask all users to secure the necessary permissions from their publishers before submitting published work for free distribution on PhilPapers. A tool is available as part of the submission process to automatically check the Open Access policy of many journal publishers.

6. We will not share information originating from you with third parties, otherwise than as specified in clause 11 below, through the Services' public functions (e.g. paper listings, user listings, discussion forums), through the sharing of simple usage patterns and statistics which cannot in practice be linked specifically to you. Configuration settings are available within user accounts and other services to control how information you provide is made publicly available.

7. The Services are offered without any warranty. Our database contains inaccuracies due to the fallible nature of the automated process by which it is populated. Our software has bugs, both known and unknown, which could cause loss of information or other malfunctions. In using the Services you agree not to hold us, our editors, our partners, or users of the Services liable for any loss or damages you might incur as a result.

8. We reserve the right to deny access to the Services to individuals or organizations that abuse the Services. Mass-querying of the site using scripts is considered a form of abuse. We reserve the right to remove any user-submitted content (including submitted entries, forum contributions, photos, posts, and user profiles, among other things) that we deem inappropriate. You agree not to hold us liable for removal of information or its consequences.

9. Download or redistribution of substantive parts of PhilPapers' citations or associated data (e.g. links) which are not available through PhilArchive's OAI-PMH interface located at https://philarchive.org/oai.pl is not allowed unless specifically agreed in writing with the general editors. Only user-submitted data are available through OAI-PMH. We reserve the right to withdraw permission to use any data obtained from PhilPapers. Redistribution of thousands of items from any list or set of lists available on PhilPapers is considered substantive.

10. For-profit redistribution of data from the Services (including abstracts) not distributed through PhilArchive's OAI-PMH interface is prohibited unless permission has been granted explicitly by the editors. Any such grant of permission may also depend on the terms under which the data were supplied to us.

11. The Services use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics uses "cookies", which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.

12. It is our policy to address any notices of copyright infringement regarding material hosted by or linked from the Services in a timely manner. Such notices (and counter-notices) should be sent to our designated copyright agent, David Bourget. It is our policy to do all that is legal and practical to prevent repeated copyright infringements from third parties using the Services. Note that PhilPapers hosts no article texts, only citations. PhilArchive hosts a relatively small number of texts as part of its Open Access archive. For the large majority of papers, PhilPapers links to third party websites.

13. Starting on July 1, 2014, the PhilPapers Foundation requires that research and teaching institutions located in high-GDP countries and offering a BA or higher degree in philosophy subscribe to PhilPapers in order to have the right of access to its index. This does not affect PhilArchive, PhilEvents, and PhilJobs: Jobs for Philosophers. Access also remains free for individuals accessing PhilPapers from home. Please see this page for details.

14. The PhilPapers Foundation is committed to doing everything that is practical to ensure the accessibility of its services to the broadest range of users. Whenever possible, we follow best practices with respect to accessibility.

15. Users may request to have all Personal Data in our possession deleted by writing to us. Once a request has been received and verified, we will close the user's account and stop collecting any Personal Data. Any Personal Data already in our possession will be deleted.
